BrightView Begins Work on Carlsbad’s Largest Park
Veterans Memorial Park will honor service members while preserving the area’s natural landscape
The city of Carlsbad, Calif., is continuing its long-term vision of transforming more than 400 acres of vacant land it has owned since the 1980s. The latest phase of that effort is the development of the city’s largest park to date: the roughly 94-acre Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Park.
Designed to serve as both a community gathering space and a tribute to those who served the country, the new park is expected to feature an outdoor fitness area, walking and biking trails, shaded pavilions, gardens, picnic areas, playgrounds, a memorial plaza, and a scenic overlook.
Honoring veterans will remain at the heart of the project while also preserving the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. More than half of the site will remain untouched and dedicated to protecting native plants and wildlife habitats, helping minimize environmental impact while creating a destination for residents and visitors alike.
BrightView was recently awarded the $38 million project and will partner closely with the city throughout construction and restoration efforts. Work is expected to begin around Memorial Day, with construction anticipated to take approximately 20 months.
“This project is incredibly meaningful because it’s about creating a place that honors veterans while also giving the community a space to connect and enjoy the outdoors,” said Greg Mettler, BrightView’s San Diego Branch Manager. “We’re proud to help bring the city’s vision for the Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Park to life.”
The park will be located along Faraday Avenue near the intersection of Cannon Road and is expected to become a landmark destination for the region once completed. In addition to constructing the park, BrightView will continue supporting the site through five years of monitoring and maintenance of habitat restoration areas.
“Our team is focused on delivering a park that balances recreation, remembrance, and environmental stewardship,” Mettler said. “It’s an opportunity to create something truly special for the Carlsbad community. Projects like this leave a lasting legacy.”
