BrightView (NYSE: BV), the leading commercial landscaping services company in the United States, today published its 2024 Corporate Responsibility Report, highlighting the Company’s commitment to being a good corporate citizen focused on environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance. “This report reflects our team’s hard work over the past year and continued focus on corporate responsibility and sustainability initiatives. Every day we set out to positively impact our stakeholders, including our employees, clients, investors, and neighbors,” said Dale Asplund, BrightView President and Chief Executive Officer. “The actions we take, and the projects we promote, are designed to do our part to help improve our environment and to help take care of our team members and customers, and the communities we serve. Fiscal 2023 Highlights

Environmental

• Established a baseline Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory.
• Ongoing replacement of our fleet with electric and fuel-efficient alternatives resulting in 17% of our vehicles being hybrid or electric as of the end of Fiscal 2023.
• Continued conversion of gas and 2-cycle landscaping equipment to electric power, with an additional 480 battery-powered handheld units, 200 electric/hybrid vehicles, and 80 electric mowers deployed.

 Social

• Continued to diversify our workforce.
• Once again, maintained a total recordable injury rate lower than the landscaping industry average, demonstrating safety is a top priority.
• Raised over $160,000, through the BrightView Landscapes Foundation, to support team members in critical situations.
• Team members contributed over 550 volunteer hours, as part of our Volunteer Time Off program.

 Governance

• BrightView’s Board maintains oversight of societal and other matters affecting the Company’s stakeholders and the environments in which we operate.
• Nine of 10 Board members are independent, with an average tenure of under five years.

BrightView (NYSE: BV), the leading commercial landscaping services company in the United States, today published its 2023 ESG Report, highlighting progress toward achieving its environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance (ESG) goals and commitments. “Reflecting on fiscal year 2022, I am extremely proud of our team’s progress amid an increasingly challenging and dynamic environment. We’ve taken important steps on our journey to becoming carbon neutral by 2035, building a diverse and engaged workforce, and continuing to operate with integrity,” said Andrew Masterman, BrightView President and Chief Executive Officer. “Supporting our team members, inspiring communities, and nurturing landscapes is at the heart of what we do every day at BrightView. I believe our purposeful ESG strategy positions us for continued success, while supporting our clients’ sustainability objectives.” 

To further inform and focus the Company’s ESG strategy, BrightView commissioned a materiality assessment to identify ESG topics of the greatest importance to its customers, vendors, team members, and investors. Moving forward, the Company plans to use the study’s insights to proactively engage with all stakeholder groups.

Highlights from the 2023 ESG Report

Environmental

• Deployed ~1,000 battery powered, zero-emission handheld equipment units
• Converted ~400 vehicles to hybrid or electric
• Partnered with Arbor Day Foundation to plant nearly 300,000 trees

 Social

• Conducted BrightView’s first team member engagement survey
• Continued to diversify our workforce by increasing the percentage of women and Hispanic/Latino team members in managerial roles
• Sustained a total recordable injury rate below the landscaping services’ industry average

 Governance

• BrightView’s Board maintains oversight of societal and other matters affecting the Company’s stakeholders and the environments in which we operate
• Seven of eight Board members remain independent, with the average tenure of directors under five years
• Continued to use E-Verify to confirm the identity and employment eligibility of newly hired team members

This second ESG Report covers BrightView’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies, activities, and achievements for FY2022 (October 1, 2021 - September 30, 2022). The report was informed by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Professional and Commercial Services Sector Standard. We will continue to evaluate evolving ESG reporting regulations and adapt our reporting methods to ensure compliance with current standards and guidelines.

Aligning with its enterprise-wide Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy and as outlined in its 2022 ESG Report, BrightView is committed to minimizing its impact on Mother Earth.

As the landscaping industry’s leader, BrightView’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 90 percent and becoming carbon neutral by 2035 resides this infographic on its five-step approach:

• Stewardship: Actively engaging with industry partners and suppliers to lead a transformation towards the Company’s environmental goals.

• Sustainability: Helping to sequester carbon by continuing to plant trees and through the sustainable design and maintenance of landscapes.

• A Cleaner Fleet: Converting the Company’s fleet of 11,000 vehicles to electric and hybrid alternatives.

• Greener Equipment: Rapidly converting approximately 35,000 pieces of 2-cycle gas-powered equipment to rechargeable energy sources by 2025, resulting in a greater than 50 percent reduction in BrightView’s carbon footprint.

• Efficient Buildings: Replacing outdated equipment and appliances with energy-efficient alternatives in the 300 properties BrightView currently owns or leases.

BrightView Team Members Celebrate Earth Day

BrightView team members nationwide are marking Earth Day 2022 by participating in local events, enhancement projects and celebrations and making a further positive impact in the communities where they live and work, including:

• Cleaning and sprucing up the landscaping at various Boys & Girls Clubs of America locations in Philadelphia

• Planting a tree and releasing lady bugs at a resort in Las Vegas

• Planting and nurturing flower arrangements at a military base in Tucson, Ariz.

• Educating children about the importance of Earth Day at a community celebration in Milpitas, Calif.

• Distributing seasonal flowers, herbs and trees to Florida office park tenants   

• Setting up a booth and handing out succulents and educational materials in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
