Baltimore Branch Safety Record
BrightView's Baltimore branch recently celebrated seven years without an OSHA incident.

A lot can happen in seven years. Think about it: almost two full terms for a president, a four-year undergraduate degree plus three years of law school, and a child going from kindergarten to sixth grade, just to name a few.

For BrightView’s Baltimore branch, those seven years represent their current record without an OSHA recordable.

So, what’s their secret?

“This accomplishment is a direct reflection of our commitment to the Push for Perfection 3-6-5 mindset, as well as the professionalism and discipline demonstrated by every member of the team, every day,” said Ronnie Geho, Baltimore’s Branch Manager. “Maintaining a flawless safety record over this length of time highlights the strength of our safety culture, the effectiveness of our training and processes, and the dedication of our employees to uphold the highest standards in every aspect of their work.”

“This is a tremendous accomplishment and standard Ronnie and his team have set for BrightView,” said Tony Cellucci, Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety. “His branch embodies what our Push for Perfection 3-6-5 mindset is all about.”

Geho relentlessly drives home with his team the true meaning of safety, which has nothing to do with hitting numbers on a spreadsheet.

“This achievement isn’t simply about compliance,” he said. “It represents our unwavering commitment to protecting our people, safeguarding our clients’ trust, and ensuring safety remains the foundation of all that we do.”

Geho already has a plan for how they’ll keep growing their safety culture.

“We view this milestone as both a celebration and a responsibility to continue raising the bar and ensuring that our operations remain a benchmark for safety excellence,” he said.

Helping Rubber Meet Green at Detroit Grand Prix

BrightView is proud to brighten up the IndyCar Series race in Detroit.

When talking about racing in the IndyCar Series, you’ll commonly hear references to pit lane, pole position, chassis, and the like.

Landscaping isn’t typically in the conversation.

BrightView is working to change that as they enhanced the IndyCar Series experience through its efforts at the Detroit Grand Prix.

BrightView’s team provided extensive landscaping support for the event, beginning with mowing and vegetation control in spectator areas, and applying herbicide to manage weed growth.

In the week leading up to the event, teams transported and set up 150 decorative pots in the pit row suites and flowers across key areas, including the winner's podium, premium restroom trailers, and entry points.

Tree pruning was also handled by BrightView to ensure safety and clear sightlines for television coverage. Maintaining the health of the plants throughout the busy event was another major effort.

“The BrightView team was essential in creating and preserving the visual appeal of these landscape installations throughout the race weekend,” said Paul Carrick, Enhancement Manager, who oversaw the Grand Prix project. “We’re proud to partner with such an influential player in the racing world and bring a little green to their event.”

Our Service Isn't Just for Customers

Our Service Isn't Just for Customers This is BrightView: Random Roadside, Scottsdale, Ariz.

At BrightView, it’s all about serving customers and communities.

Customer service can take many forms—everything from tree trimming to golf course maintenance and everything in between.

Serving communities means supporting organizations, such as Homes For Our Troops, Boys & Girls Clubs, and others across the country.

Sometimes, however, service to the community is as simple as grabbing a camera.

That was the case for Jesus Oregel, Account Manager at BrightView’s Scottsdale Branch, during one of his weekly property inspections. He came across a grandmother, mother, and their baby taking photos of each other, but they couldn’t get a shot with all three of them together.

Oregel pulled over, got out of his truck, and offered to take a group picture for them.

“The reason I did this is because I want our customers and the public to know that we’re not just a big company; we’re one big family, and we’re willing to help anyone who needs it,” Oregel said. “I also know how it feels taking turns taking pictures with the kiddos because I have two wonderful children.”

The family was deeply appreciative of the gesture, and the impact did not go unnoticed.

“People tend to see BrightView as a logo or dollar signs on a top 100 list,” said Kelly Dowell, the subject of Oregel’s kind act, via a LinkedIn post. “That's what company culture is. It's not policies or slogans. It's little moments in the field, talking to clients, and even your online presence. These all add up to the bigger picture.”

“Doing such small things for a stranger can mean a lot to them,” Oregel added. “We don’t know what people are going through, so I always try to help anyone in need—both inside and outside of the company—and treat everyone with respect.”

BrightView Elevates Margaritaville Hotel to New Heights

Crew delivers rooftop palm tree via stairs
BrightView crews deliver a palm tree to the rooftop of the Margaritaville Hotel in Hollywood, Fla.

Crews at BrightView’s North Miami Beach Branch have planted countless trees of every type over the years in virtually every possible setting: parks, golf courses, etc.

They’ve done it all.

So, when the Margaritaville Hotel called them to install a couple palm trees on their rooftop 11 floors up, it was no big deal as the team had three execution options, which were learned from prior experiences.

However, upon closer review, there was a bit of a problem with options A, B, and C.

Option A included using a crane, but it was cost-prohibitive to find one that was big enough and getting the crane close to the hotel with a large boulevard next to it was next to impossible.

Option B involved using a helicopter to lower the trees to the rooftop. However, the constant winds at this location made that option unrealistic.

Option C was simply using the hotel’s elevator. However, their elevators were not suited for larger trees.

Enter option D: Simply using the stairs.

Thankfully, the parking structure reached the eighth floor, however, the final three flights redefined the meaning of “hand delivery.”

“The successful coordination of this project is what sets us apart from our competitors,” said Vincent Carignan, Senior Account Manager, North Miami Beach Branch. “Most companies would not touch this type of project because it’s so complex to get everybody to work together, but BrightView has the necessary resources and experience. Our crews are willing to do whatever it takes to deliver for our customers.”

Thanks to the BrightView touch, the rooftop at the Margaritaville Hotel now has some shade.

Clint Matthews, Jacksonville Branch Crew Leader
BrightView team member Clint Matthews recently rescued victims from burning vehicle.

Driving to work recently, Clint Matthews, Jacksonville Branch Crew Leader, was ready to embrace a standard workday: mowing, trimming, etc., when he noticed smoke from a car on the side of the road that was just involved in an accident.

With no emergency crews on the scene, Matthews pulled over and pulled the remaining passengers from the vehicle before it burst into flames.

“They needed help, and I was fortunate enough to be able to help them,” Matthews said. “My thoughts and prayers are with those involved in the accident. It was a very serious situation.”

Matthews' actions are no surprise to those he works with.

“His courage, quick thinking, and willingness to act under pressure likely saved a life,” said Rodney Hicks, Senior Branch Manager of the Jacksonville Branch. “Thank you, Clint, for embodying the best of who we are. Your bravery inspires us all.”

The Gaylord Pacific Hotel and Convention Center in Chula Vista, Calif., is nothing short of stunning. From pools to palm trees and everything in between, its attention to detail is flawless.

But there was something missing.

They called BrightView.

“They wanted a bigger ‘wow’ factor as guests arrived at the hotel’s entrance,” said Isaac Alford, Branch Manager in San Diego.

Alford called in 108 of BrightView’s finest gardeners and concrete artisans and got to work.

The team began work in the spring of 2024, installing early civil site concrete, which included:

  • 5,000 linear feet of curb and gutter work
  • 65,000 square feet of heavy civil loading dock paving

BrightView then moved into the architectural site concrete and landscape, which included:

  • More than 1,000 linear feet of cast-in-place walls
  • 200,000 square feet of decorative site concrete paving
  • 50,000 square feet of artificial turf
  • 400,000 square feet of landscaped area
  • 206 palm trees

“The job was completed on time and the customer was extremely satisfied with the project’s outcome,” Alford said.
